Appealing a professional registration outcome
You have the right to appeal the outcome of your professional registration assessment to the Council. However, before doing so, you must first complete the appeal process with the Licensed Body to which you applied initially. The Licensed Body, must be given the opportunity to resolve the appeal, before escalation to the Council. Please note: Appeals incur a cost of £175.
You may submit an appeal on the following grounds:
- The Licensed Body not following due process, as per their license agreement.
Or - Discriminatory / unethical practices being used during the registration process.
For a more detailed explanation of each stage of the process, use the drop downs.
1. Submit your appeal
To begin the appeal process, submit your appeal in writing to the Standards team at standards@ukcybersecuritycouncil.org.uk.
Note: If your appeal is based on an alleged ethical breach, the Standards team will collaborate with the Ethics Committee to determine whether the ethical breach process should be implemented instead of the registration appeal process. You will be notified if this is the case.
2. Exploration
Upon receiving your appeal, the Council will initiate an exploration exercise. This will include requesting information from the Licensed Body, such as:
- The complete history of your application assessment, including all evidence you submitted and the evaluations made by the Assessors.
- Documentation and the outcome of the appeal process conducted by the Licensed Body.
- Any communication between you and the Licensed Body.
3. Review panel evaluation
A review panel will be convened to evaluate the grounds of your appeal and review the investigation materials.
- If the review panel finds that there are grounds for appeal, they will conduct a further investigation and recommend an outcome to the Council.
- If the review panel determines that there are no grounds for appeal and that the Licensed Body’s processes meet the expected standards, they will make a final decision on the outcome and specify any required remedial actions for the Licensed Body.
4. Potential outcomes
The review panel may recommend one of the following actions:
- The Licensed Body re-assesses your application, starting from any stage of the registration process, with different Assessors assigned to each stage.
- The Licensed Body undertakes remedial actions to improve its registration process, followed by a re-assessment of your application.
- Any other recommendation applicable.
5. Final decision
After the Council has reviewed the recommendations from the review panel, a final decision will be made regarding your appeal. You will be formally notified of the outcome in writing, including any steps that will be taken as a result of the decision. The Council's decision is final.
